The line between sculpture and design is very fine in the work of Ron Arad. The Folly bench/sculpture, designed for the Italian manufacturer Magis, is an example of that. His creations, whether functional or purely aesthetic in nature, are characterized by movement, by smooth lines that give all his works a highly dynamic orientation, despite their simple forms. Ron Arad's creative process is defined through experimenting with the expressive potential of the materials, which transcends mere functionality, in order to create objects that are highly plastic and expressive, and can be reworked to become products for large-scale distribution. This is what also happened to Folly, the bench/ sculpture in rotation-molded polyethylene, available in a single color (rust brown) and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It is actually a sculptural object with its own functionality: one bench that allows 8-10 people to sit on it.
